Engine by Starling, the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) arm of Starling Group, has opened a new dedicated headquarters in the City of London as it gears up for a significant period of expansion. The company announced it is set to hire more than 150 new colleagues to support its growing global client base.

The new office, located at 199 Bishopsgate, will eventually house more than 300 experts across engineering, delivery, and client services. The move marks a physical separation from its parent company; previously, Engine shared the Starling Group’s headquarters at the Fruit and Wool Exchange in Spitalfields.
The expansion follows a series of commercial wins for the banking technology provider. Most notably, Engine recently signed its biggest deal to date—a ten-year agreement to upgrade the core banking infrastructure for Tangerine Bank in Canada.
The platform also powers AMP Bank GO in Australia and Salt Bank in Romania, and has established international offices in Sydney, Dubai, Toronto, and New York.
Sam Everington, CEO of Engine by Starling, commented on the company’s trajectory:
“Thanks to our global footprint, Engine is well on track to scale into a business generating £100m of annual recurring revenue. London sits at the heart of our operations, and is where our proprietary tech stack was built. It therefore makes perfect sense to expand our headcount and launch our new HQ in the City.”
Innovation at the core
While Engine and Starling Bank will now occupy separate offices, the relationship remains symbiotic. Starling Bank continues to serve as the primary case study for Engine’s capabilities, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence.
This year, the bank’s engineering and data science teams delivered several UK-first AI tools, including Scam Intelligence—a detection tool endorsed by UK fraud minister Lord Hanson—and Spending Intelligence, which allows customers to query their transaction history using voice and natural language.
“While we now live in separate offices, Starling Bank remains a critical case study for what Engine’s technology platform can do. The bank’s innovation, particularly when it comes to AI, is driving significant interest for Engine worldwide,” Everington added.
Starling Group confirmed that it also acquired additional space at its Spitalfields location in November to accommodate the continued growth of the bank itself.
