TrueLayer, the European open banking network, has expanded its collaboration with Stripe to launch ‘Pay by Bank’ payments in Finland, integrating the service directly into Kustom Checkout.
The partnership enables over 24,000 merchants using Kustom’s checkout solution to offer instant, secure bank payments to their customers. The rollout, which begins this month, allows shoppers to pay directly from their bank accounts without the need for card details or manual data entry.
A high-adoption market

Finland is viewed as a prime market for open banking adoption due to its digitally mature population. According to Mikko Karjanlahti, country manager for Finland at Kustom, the new integration makes Pay by Bank available to “100 per cent of the Finnish population”.
“We know how important it is for merchants to offer payment methods that local shoppers know and trust to drive conversion,” Karjanlahti said. “Having the right payment options in place can determine whether a customer completes the purchase.”
Ulf Klavér, Finland country manager at TrueLayer, echoed this sentiment, describing the country as the “perfect environment” for the technology to thrive given its high rates of online banking usage.
Expanding a strategic alliance
This launch marks the latest phase in the ongoing partnership between TrueLayer and Stripe. Stripe, which is an investor in TrueLayer, previously introduced the open banking specialist’s Pay by Bank product to merchants in the UK, France, and Germany in 2025.
By leveraging Stripe’s global payments infrastructure alongside Kustom’s regional dominance in the Nordics, the move is designed to provide a localized payment experience that aligns with specific Finnish consumer preferences while operating on a pan-European network.
Kustom, a leading fintech in the region, currently facilitates sales in over 170 countries, positioning this integration as a significant step in the broader shift toward low-cost, card-free payments across the continent.
