DeFi TVL Reaches $120B, Highest Since 2022

The decentralized finance ecosystem has reached a major milestone, with total value locked (TVL) across all protocols surpassing $120 billion — the highest level since the euphoric peak of the 2021 bull market. The resurgence represents a 340% increase from the bear market lows of late 2022.
Unlike the 2021 peak, which was characterized by unsustainable yield farming incentives and speculative leverage, the current TVL growth is being driven by more fundamental factors. Real yield — returns generated from actual protocol revenue rather than token emissions — has become the dominant narrative.
Aave, the leading decentralized lending protocol, has seen its TVL grow to $18 billion, with a significant portion coming from institutional borrowers using crypto as collateral for working capital.
Uniswap v4, launched earlier this year with its revolutionary "hooks" architecture, has captured significant market share with $22 billion in TVL.
