SEC Approves Spot Ethereum ETF Applications

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has approved spot Ethereum ETF applications from multiple asset managers, including BlackRock, Fidelity, and VanEck, in a landmark decision that marks a new era for cryptocurrency's integration into traditional finance.
The approved products will begin trading on major U.S. exchanges within the coming weeks, pending final registration statement effectiveness. Unlike futures-based ETH products that have existed since 2021, these spot ETFs will hold actual Ethereum, providing investors with direct price exposure.
The SEC's approval order noted that the applicants had satisfactorily addressed concerns around market manipulation, custody, and investor protection. The commission pointed to the maturation of the Ethereum market as a key factor in its decision.
Market reaction has been swift and positive. ETH surged 15% in the hours following the announcement, briefly touching $4,200 before settling around $3,900.
