Freedom Bank Kazakhstan, a subsidiary of the Nasdaq-listed Freedom Holding Corp., has expanded its digital ecosystem with the launch of an embedded eSIM miniapp within its SuperApp.
Powered by superapp infrastructure provider Boxo, the new feature allows users to purchase, activate, and manage international mobile data plans directly through their banking interface. The service includes options for unlimited data plans lasting up to 30 days, catering to the bank’s increasingly mobile customer base.
Banking meets global mobility
The launch marks a significant step in Freedom Bank’s strategy to evolve its SuperApp beyond core financial services into a broader lifestyle platform. By integrating telecommunications capabilities, the bank aims to remove the friction associated with traditional roaming and physical SIM cards for its users travelling for business or leisure.
Vyacheslav Kim, CEO of Freedom SuperApp, commented on the integration: “We want all essential services — from finance to lifestyle — to be available in one place. Traveling should be as easy as sending money or paying for a purchase.”
The move aligns with a growing trend among digital banks to increase user engagement by embedding high-frequency, non-financial services. Freedom Bank has previously established itself as a regional innovator, having launched fully digital mortgages and investment-based cashback programs in Kazakhstan.
Infrastructure by Boxo
The technical execution relies on Boxo’s superapp SDK, which enables platforms to embed third-party miniapps—such as travel booking, insurance, and connectivity—through a single integration. Boxo manages the backend complexity, including carrier provisioning and global telecom partnerships, allowing Freedom Bank to deploy the vertical rapidly.
